Stare-Downs Haunt Us Forever! (Part 3)

Cruz, feeling the elation, the euphoria of receiving a trophy for winning her first-ever race, then seeing her trophy broken, explodes. She’s been pushed past her limit. Her years of regret over being stared-down erupt.

“Ask me if I dreamed of being a trainer.” “Ask me if I got up in the dark to run laps before school every day; ask me if I saved every penny to buy a ticket to the races when they came to town; ask me if I did so I could be a trainer someday. Ask me.” “No! I have wanted to become a racer forever! Because of you! I used to watch you on TV, flying through the air. You seemed so … fearless.”

She completely overlooked the fact that when she had watched McQueen, he was already in his prime. She didn’t see him in his first race. No one was watching his first dozen races. Only after he learned through countless failures, aka “practicing,” did he begin to get followers. It’s the same for every champion, every “overnight success,” regardless the profession.

In fact, it’s generally the countless practicing that prevents a new champ from being just a one-hit wonder! Their loathed practicing builds stamina, strength, and endurance. Aka Heart!

BTW, insert your own goal and consider how this applies to you.

Until next time,
